Dental Veneers Collingwood

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental Veneers in Collingwood are a great option for those looking to improve their smile! Dental Veneers are a form of Cosmetic Dentistry that involves the permanent bonding of porcelain or composite resin ‘shells’ to the front portion of a tooth.

To create a permanent bond, the enamel of the tooth is removed in order to prepare the tooth for cementation. The removal of this natural tooth structure is irreversible and done simply for aesthetic purposes. For this reason, only teeth that are in the smile region (anterior/front teeth), are typically addressed.

Dental Veneers are different from Dental Crowns, Dental Bridges, Dental Bonding, or Dental Implants in that they only affect the front portion of your tooth and are not considered a Restorative treatment. This means they are purely aesthetic and add no benefit to the function of your bite or oral health. When installed and maintained correctly, Dental Veneers can last over 10 years.

Our dentists at Collingwood Family Dental will be able to explain your options for Dental Veneers during a Free Consultation appointment. You can view our dentists’ previous cases and even get an idea for what your new smile may look like!

What’s the Difference Between Porcelain and Composite Veneers?

For anyone that is considering Dental Veneers, there are two standard materials to choose from in Porcelain or Composite Resin. Our dentists at Collingwood Family Dental will be able to go over your options and help you decide which material is best suited for your particular case.

Major differences between Porcelain and Composite Dental Veneers:

– Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Dental Veneers are typically recommended for the more cosmetic cases with patients that are looking for the most natural appearance. Porcelain Dental Veneers are customized and fabricated in a Dental Lab before being bonded to your prepared teeth. When maintained correctly, Porcelain Dental Veneers can last over ten years. Here are a few of the advantages and disadvantages of Porcelain Dental Veneers.

Advantages of Porcelain Veneers

– Most popular choice for Dental Veneers
– Ability to replicate your natural tooth structure, enamel’s shine, colour, and shade
– Strength compared to Composite Resin
– Highly stain-resistant

Disadvantages of Porcelain Veneers

– More detailed, resource intensive, and time consuming which makes Porcelain Veneers more expensive
– Difficult to repair if chipped or broken (typically needs to be redone in these cases)

– Composite Veneers

Advantages of Composite Veneers

– Colour matched to your teeth, but not to the same degree as Porcelain Veneers
– Can be completed in just one appointment
– More affordable than Porcelain Veneers as they are less resource intensive and time consuming
– Small repairs and chips are often fixable due to the Composite Resin being used

Disadvantages of Composite Veneers

– Shorter lifespan than Porcelain Veneers at five to eight years on average
– Not as strong as Porcelain Veneers
– Stained more easily, which means cutting back on certain food and drink such as coffee and wine

Overall, both types of Dental Veneers will help you to produce a beautiful natural-looking smile. When choosing, you should consider your budget, lifestyle (coffee and wine drinkers), repair and maintenance factors, and the type of smile you’re looking to achieve. Each of Porcelain and Composite have their benefits and drawbacks, but it’s up to you as to which material you’d like to use for your Dental Veneers.

Our dentists at Collingwood Family Dental will be able to go over your options for Dental Veneers and help you decide which material is best suited for your desired smile and overall lifestyle. Moving forward with Dental Veneers is a big decision, so make sure to visit our dental clinic in Collingwood to learn more about your options for Dental Veneers.

Are Veneers Right for You? Can Anyone Get Dental Veneers?

Dental Veneers can be a great option to help rejuvenate your smile, however, this Cosmetic Dentistry treatment option is not available to everyone. As every person’s oral health condition is unique, there are certain oral health conditions that may remove you as a candidate for Dental Veneers.

People that may not be eligible for Dental Veneers include those with:

– Active periodontal disease
– Severely weakened teeth
– Missing teeth
– Congenital conditions
– Certain medical conditions
– Malformed teeth
– Other dental treatment required

Some of these conditions listed above can be addressed with dental treatment and proper oral health maintenance, which means Dental Veneers may be an option once these issues are addressed.

In order to find out if you’re a candidate for Dental Veneers, schedule a Free Consultation with our dentists at Collingwood Family Dental to discuss your options and assess your individual case. During your Consultation, you will actively participate in the ‘Smile Design’ process in order to share your objectives and goals with our dentists to help achieve your dream smile. How are Dental Veneers Done?

Dental Veneers at Collingwood Family Dental typically start with a Consultation to go over your objectives, help our dentists understand your goals, and answer any questions you may have about the treatment process. Treatment and financing options are also discussed at this appointment. Once you have decided to move forward with treatment, your first appointment can then be scheduled!

The main difference in the process for Dental Veneers lies in the type of Dental Veneer chosen – Porcelain vs Composite Resin.

Here is how each of these Dental Veneers are completed:

Porcelain Veneers:

1. First Appointment

At your first appointment for Porcelain Veneers, your dentist will confirm your smile goals and objectives and then begin treatment. After numbing the area, your dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel to help prepare an area for your Porcelain Veneers to be placed. Once happy with the preparation, an impression will be taken or scanned and sent off to a Dental Lab for the professional fabrication of your Porcelain Veneer(s).

In the meantime, your dentist will apply Temporary Veneers to help keep your smile as natural as possible while your permanent Porcelain Veneers are being created at the Dental Lab. You will then schedule a second and final appointment to have your Dental Veneers permanently placed.

2. Second Appointment

At your second appointment for Dental Veneers, our Collingwood Dental Office will have received your Porcelain Veneers back from the Dental Lab. Your dentist will then apply the Porcelain Veneers to your prepared teeth using a bonding technique which includes composite resin cement. Your dentist will then finalize the shape, size, and fit of the Porcelain Veneers before showing you your new smile!

Composite Veneers:

1. First Appointment
At your first appointment for Composite Veneers, your dentist will confirm your smile goals and objectives and then begin treatment. After numbing the area, your dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel on the teeth receiving Composite Veneers. Once the preparation has been completed, your dentist will then begin to add layers of Composite Resin to achieve the desired look and smile objectives.

Each layer of Composite Resin is ‘UV Light Cured’ to help solidify the tooth and create a foundation for the next layer. After the final layer, the Composite Veneers are then shaped and polished to achieve your final smile.

2. Second Appointment

Depending on the number of teeth receiving Composite Veneers, a second appointment may be required to finish the Composite Resin build up, shaping, and polishing. Our dentists at Collingwood Family Dental want to ensure you are extremely happy with the results of your Composite Veneers!

If you have any questions about the process for Composite or Porcelain Veneers in Collingwood, we recommend scheduling a Free Consultation for Dental Veneers. We’d be more than happy to answer your questions and provide treatment options to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted!

How Much Do Dental Veneers Cost?

Dental Veneers are a great Cosmetic treatment option to help improve the beauty of your smile. While there are many options for Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Veneers may be the perfect fit for your unique situation. But, how much do they cost? What are the factors that can make Dental Veneers more expensive?

In general, Porcelain Veneers are more expensive than the alternative of Composite Veneers. Porcelain Veneers typically cost between $950 and $3,000 per tooth. Most often, multiple teeth are done across the anterior (front) region of the smile. This may include just upper teeth, but often includes lower teeth as well when visible in a full smile.

On the other hand, Composite Veneers typically cost between $300 and $1,500 per tooth. Again, it’s most popular to have multiple teeth done on either the top and/or bottom anterior teeth that show in the ‘smile zone’.

These fee estimates do not include any accompanying treatment that is necessary in order to be eligible for Dental Veneers, X-Rays required to examine current oral health conditions, or work required to fix chips, fractures, or staining due to poor maintenance after the treatment. Our team will go over proper maintenance and expectations during your appointment.

Here are a few factors that will influence the cost of Dental Veneers in Collingwood:

– Experience of Dentist performing the procedure
– Time spent on artistic and technical components of the case
– Overall complexity of the case
– Insurance coverages
– Material used (Porcelain or Composite Resin)
– Dental Laboratory used
– Number and type of teeth being treated

At Collingwood Family Dental, our fees are based on the current year’s Ontario Dental Fee Guide, provided by the Ontario Dental Association. These fees are subject to annual updates by the Ontario Dental Association. The fees provided above are non-inclusive of Dental Exams, Consultations, X-Rays, or any other dental services. Our team will be able to go over final costs and estimates with you at your in-office appointment.

For Veneers (and other complex treatment) our Collingwood Dental Office offers payment plans and financing options to help spread the cost of treatment out over a longer period of time and work within your budget. Our team will be able to discuss these financial options with you during your Consultation.

Are Dental Veneers Covered by Your Dental Insurance?

In most cases, Cosmetic Dentistry treatment options such as Dental Veneers are not covered by Dental Insurances. However, there are Benefits such as Health Care Spending Accounts and other avenues we can explore through your Dental Insurance to see if they will help cover some, or all, of the costs associated with your Dental Veneers.

Our team at Collingwood Family Dental offers Direct Insurance Billing for the convenience of our patients. This means we will bill your Insurance Provider directly and take care of collecting any reimbursements, so you are only left to pay the co-pays, deductibles, or other fees associated with your Dental Insurance coverage. We are always available to provide quotes and estimates based on your Dental Insurance plan.
