5 Common Questions for Collingwood Dentists

At Collingwood Family Dental, we have the opportunity to speak with many patients from the area – both new and returning! Many of these patients have the same questions when inquiring about becoming a new patient, scheduling appointments, deciding on treatment, using their insurance, and more. We’ve decided to share a few of these popular questions for those seeking the same answers!

Here are a few of the most popular questions for Collingwood Dentists:

  • How can I become a new patient? Can my whole family join?

Not all Dental Clinics are accepting new patients as the physical size of the office and the number of Dental Providers can limit the amount of rostered patients the practice is able to accommodate. However, there are many Dental Clinics in Collingwood that are still welcoming new patients and families. Be sure to ask any prospective Collingwood Dentist if they’re welcoming new patients and families when you call to make a first appointment.

  • How often should I be going to the Dentist for a Cleaning and Check Up?

During your first New Patient Exam & Check Up, your Dental Providers will recommend an interval for you to return for an Exam and Cleaning. Typically, these intervals are either 3, 4, 6, or 9 months. However, every patient’s oral health condition is unique and may require a different interval. It’s important to work with your Dental Provider to arrange an interval that works for you and your oral health.

At Collingwood Family Dental, our team will decide your interval at your first New Patient Exam, X-Rays Update, and Cleaning. Similar to above, the interval for your return will depend on several factors, but typically fall into one of the 3, 4, 6, or 9 month interval categories. While this doesn’t work for everyone, our providers will work with you to arrange the best interval for your unique oral health needs.

  • What age should I bring my child in for their first Dental appointment?

This is a very common question asked by parents of young children. Our team recommends bringing your child in for their first dental appointment before the age of one or six months after their first tooth has erupted – whichever comes first!

A quick check-up appointment at this age will allow the dentist to confirm the child’s proper oral development, answer any questions for the parents, and help the child to familiarize themselves with the environment at the dental office.

  • How many Collingwood Dentists do you have at your Dental Clinic?

Depending on the size of the practice and number of patients on the Clinic’s roster, multiple Collingwood Dentists may work under the same roof. Some Dental Clinics may also offer Specialty Services by having different Specialists work certain days throughout the month. Having multiple Dentists and Specialty Services, patients are able to receive access to care all under one roof.

In other cases, certain Dental Clinics may have just one Dentist and not offer in-house Specialty Services. In this case, the Dentist would refer all Specialty treatment to Specialty Clinics nearby and perform all other treatment in-house.

  • I have a Tooth that has been hurting, what’s wrong with it?

If you are experiencing an issue with a specific tooth or area of your mouth, your Collingwood Dentist will be able to perform a ‘Specific Exam’ to examine the specific area or issue. Alternatively, your Dentist may recommend an Emergency Exam, a Recall Exam, or a Comprehensive Examination – depending on the needs of the patient and their unique oral health condition.

So, if you have a specific issue with your tooth, call to set up an appointment with a Collingwood Dentist to find out what’s happening. During the Examination, they will likely take a look inside your mouth and possibly take an x-ray or two to confirm their diagnosis. They’ll then present your treatment options and either perform treatment at that appointment or schedule you back for treatment at a future date.

If you are in extreme pain or are experiencing significant oral swelling, it’s important to visit an Dentist Near You for Emergency Dental Care as soon as possible. Similar to above, the Dentist will examine your issue and possibly take x-rays to confirm their diagnosis. Depending on the case itself, the Dentist may or may not perform treatment that day. A prescription and/or a future appointment may be required as well.

  • Do I have to pay at the end of the appointment?

Whether or not you have to pay at the appointment depends on many factors including the treatment type, whether or not you have insurance, and if the Dental Clinic offers Direct Insurance Billing. Direct Insurance Billing is when a Dental Clinic offers to submit and collect your Dental Claims on your behalf, leaving you to pay any co-payments, deductibles, or other remaining fees.

If the Dental Clinic does not offer Direct Insurance Billing, you will likely have to pay at the time of service and either the Dental Clinic or yourself will submit the claim to your insurance provider for further processing and payment.

If you do not have Dental Insurance, some Dental Clinics may offer Payment Plans for larger treatment, but they may also charge interest on these payment plans as well.

At Collingwood Family Dental, we offer Direct Insurance Billing for patients with Dental Coverage and Payment Plans for larger treatments.
